Roles & Permissions

FoundersBoxx controls access in three layers: a base role for every person, capabilities you grant individually, and account-wide transparency switches. You manage all of it from Account Settings → People & Access.

1. Base Roles

Every member of your account has exactly one role.

Admin — Full access to everything: all modules, settings, billing, and team management. The account owner is always an admin and can’t be downgraded.

Member — A regular internal teammate. Starts with a sensible baseline (dashboard, company directory, news, resources, their own evaluations and stock options) and gains more through capabilities and transparency settings.

External — A limited internal collaborator, such as a contractor or advisor. Shares the member baseline and can be granted capabilities just like a member.

Investors and board members are not account roles. They’re external stakeholders you manage in the Fundraising and Board sections and who sign in through the secure portal — see Investor Portal.

2. Capabilities

Capabilities are additive permissions you grant to individual members on top of their role. Each grant records who gave it and can have an optional expiry date, so you can hand out time-boxed access.

CapabilityWhat it unlocks
Finance viewerView runway, revenue, burn, and cash — read-only
Finance managerEdit actuals, forecasts, expenses, COGS, and the cap table (includes Finance viewer)
People / HRManage employee records, evaluation cycles, templates, and teams
Sales / GTMManage the sales pipeline, contacts, campaigns, ICPs, and Milo
FundraisingManage rounds, investor lists, and fundraising tasks
Offsite plannerOpen the offsite budget tools

Finance manager requires Finance viewer — granting it adds both, and revoking the viewer removes the manager grant too.

Admins automatically have every capability, so the capability grid only applies to members and external collaborators.

3. Transparency

Transparency bundles are company-wide switches that share depth with everyone on your team at once (read-only). Toggle them on the People & Access page.

Strategy detail — Lets every member and external open strategy pages: metric history, bet rationale, canvas detail, and the board narrative.

Financial snapshot — Lets every member and external see runway, revenue, burn, and cash position. Viewing only — editing still requires the Finance manager capability.

Use transparency when you want an open culture without granting capabilities one person at a time. Some founders share the full financial picture with the whole team; others keep it restricted. It’s your call, and you can change it at any time.

How it fits together

When someone opens a page, FoundersBoxx checks, in order: are they an admin (full access)? then their role baseline, then their capabilities, then any transparency bundles you’ve enabled. A few things stay protected regardless — for example, individual compensation data is never exposed through finance capabilities.
